When I'm done it will be a totally different story, but that will be fun, too.

To My Most Respected RivalI am as the air that surrounds me and the breath that carries my every word. I would do anything to have you but change. My thoughts are my actions, my actions are nothing more than the thoughts of my mind and the beliefs of my spirit. Carried out. In truth. I will not pretend to be-- and you know that your love of me exists because I am that which cannot be swayed. To My Most Respected Rival
We are soulmates who, unbending, will never meet, but stare across the gulf at that which we will never have. Neither will bow that the other might hold dominance. Ye

Born in the Year of the HorseWhat a bright young colt he was. Oh, he had the makings of a fine stallion. To all the world a grand and powerful thing-- but to himself only an animal of labor.Born in the Year of the Horse
Born solitary in a small town, he was alight with hopes and dreams. Ceaselessly ambitious. Ambitiously impatient. It was not long before he did extraordinary things. And always with another dream to chase.
"I will do this. And when I'm done, I will do that."
But it was not enough. He was still in a small town. He was still unrecognized by the world outside. Fearful he was doomed to die as colorless as his many aunts and uncles. A grav

"But in dreams..."I was waiting for a plane to arrive. I guess it was a highway with prairie grasses around it and an open canyon dropping off nearby. There were a pair of filing cabinets just standing like odd-duck guards in the middle of the road. Not exactly the place to catch a plane, but I knew I was dreaming so it was okay. I love dreams. They feel like balm on my brains."But in dreams..."
So, while I was waiting, sitting on the bumper of a parked car, a truck drove up with other people also waiting for the plane. There was a young woman there, about my age and very pretty. She had playful glint to her eyes and smiled at me. I smiled back and we kept waiting.

Twinkle in the light Shivers chill this night so cold Therein lays the fight
Shimmering fields of Sparkler Sea Raging rapid dead Killing fleet to fight or flee Fill the heart with dread
Tumble in the troubled heap Restless minds at ease Fumble in the darkness seep Feel the cold dawn breeze

She caught herself thinking.
Thinking about the squares. Hard. Whole. Easy to grasp. Every side perfect, every edge sharp. Never bleeding into each other. Black to white to black to white. Without beginning. Without end.
Before, there had been nothing. Now the squares were whispering to her in their sibilant, shuffling way. Now they were inserting themselves into her life. Could she go back? She wanted to. Desperately. But, no, there was only forward. She was being forced to think again. About the squares. Only about the squares. They beckoned, and she would follow, hoping their c
